Spirituality is important to many people. Admission to the hospital can be bewildering and generally a worrying time. While you're unwell, you may have many serious questions: Why me? Is there any hope? What will the future bring? What can I do to make sense of my life? You may also be wondering about the meaning of life and your own life. Or perhaps you just need to talk to someone and be heard.
The spirituality support group will provide you with a safe space to talk with others and discuss some of the issues or questions that are significant to you. If you have been admitted to our wards or are receiving care from home treatment teams, you are welcome to join the group.
Telling your story: and pooling wisdom!
Finding your inner resources.
Awareness of your spirituality
Gloom seems over-powering and you don't feel like yourself anymore. Things are falling apart and the world around you doesn't make much sense, either.
At times like these, the spiritual support group can help you to break through crisis and uncertainty.
Talking can sometimes decrease our sense of loneliness, isolation and mental anguish and help with feelings of powerlessness and hopelessness
For some, spirituality is an important component of coping with illness and mental anguish. The group encourages us:
· To draw on spirituality as a resource for inner strength.
· To share our personal experiences and discover how they may be transformative and help in our recovery.
People who attend the group are encouraged to share their understanding of spirituality and their spiritual experiences with each other and to support others in doing the same.
Everyone is welcome to attend the spirituality support group and will be required to agree to the ground rules and respect confidentiality.
Josiah or one of our team a will meet you in the Sanctuary Room, situated close to the reception area of Farnham Road Hospital.
Please ask your ward staff to take you to the Sanctuary Room a few minutes before start of the session. If you have booked a session, ask the ward staff to make an entry into the ward diary to enable them to allocate somebody to take you and others that have booked a session to the Sanctuary Room 10 minutes before the start time.
